January 8, 2021- Agents of the Optical Media Board conducted an inspection operation against Boomers Computer Center located at Marikina City resulting to the closure of the said establishment.
Boomers Computer Center was found selling second-hand laptops without the necessary license and permits from OMB. Unlicensed software such as Windows 10 and Microsoft Office were also being installed in the laptops as “freebies”. Taken into preventive custody are 82 units of second-hand laptop and 3 pieces of flashdrives containing MS Windows and Office installers/drives.
Engaging in business activities involving storage devices such as distribution and sale of laptops and computers without the appropriate license from OMB are violations under Republic Act No. 9239 otherwise known as the Optical Media Act of 2003.
Aside from the closure of the establishment, the owner of Boomers Computer Center is facing administrative and criminal charges from the Optical Media Board for violations of R.A. No. 9239. If found guilty, the people responsible for this act will face maximum imprisonment of up to six (6) years and a fine of up to One Million Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php1,500,000.00) per violation. #
