PRESS RELEASE: OMB Inspection Leads to Confiscation of Items in Manila
The Optical Media Board conducted an enforcement operation in the City of Manila resulting to the confiscation of several items from a business establishment not licensed with the agency.   On October 13, 2020, a raid was conducted by OMB at Guide Electronics Center located at Sta. Cruz, Manila wherein 150 units of DVD players with MIDI Videoke Discs were confiscated. The total estimated value of the seized items amount to Php 270,000.00.   Engaging in businesses or activities such as distribution or sale of any storage media devices, in this case, the MIDI Videoke Discs, without securing the necessary license and permits from OMB is a violation of Republic Act no. 9239, otherwise known as the Optical Media Act of 2003.   Owners of Guide Electronics Center are facing administrative and criminal charges for violations of Republic Act 9239. If found guilty, the people responsible for this act will face maximum imprisonment of up to six (6) years and a fine of up to One Million Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php 1,500,000.00) per violation. #
