PRESS RELEASE: P3.4M worth of Counterfeit Storage Media Devices Seized by OMB
Agents of the Optical Media Board conducted an enforcement operation today at Valenzuela City, taking into preventive custody hundreds of counterfeit storage media devices.   At around 4:00pm yesterday, September 9, 2020, Imbram General Merchandise located at Malinta, Valenzuela City was raided by the OMB. Found in the said establishment are 819 pieces of micro SD cards, 905 pieces of USB and OTG flash drives, and 1 desktop computer with unlicensed OS and MS Office Activators. These storage media devices were being sold in online selling platforms like Lazada and Shopee.  The estimated value of all seized items amount to Php 3,430,800.00.   Engaging in businesses or activities such as distribution or sale of any storage media devices without securing the necessary license and permits from OMB is a violation of Republic Act no. 9239, otherwise known as the Optical Media Act of 2003.   Imbram General Merchandise is facing administrative and criminal charges for violations of Republic Act 9239. If found guilty, the people responsible for this act will face maximum imprisonment of up to six (6) years and a fine of up to One Million Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php 1,500,000.00) per violation. #
