PRESS RELEASE: Over Php3M Worth of Storage Media Devices Seized in Quezon City
The Optical Media Board conducted an enforcement operation today, August 28, 2020 at Barangay Doña Imelda, Quezon City, successfully confiscating Php3.061M worth of storage devices and computers with illegally pre-installed software.   After days of surveillance from the Enforcement and Investigation Division of the Optical Media Board, the warehouse of O Gamma Computer Trading in Quezon City was raided this afternoon. The said establishment, which is not licensed by OMB for the sale of storage devices, was found to be selling storage media devices and personal computers. Seized from O Gamma Computer Trading were 267 pieces of SSDs, 96 pieces of USBs, 90 pieces HDDs, 43 pieces of laptop computers with pre-installed software, 17 pieces All-in-One computers and 14 pieces desktop computers with HDD and DVD writers. The estimated value of all seized items amount to Php3,061,000.   Engaging in businesses or activities such as distribution or sale of any storage media devices without securing the necessary license and permits from OMB is a violation of Republic Act no. 9239, otherwise known as the Optical Media Act of 2003.   O Gamma Computer Trading is facing administrative and criminal charges for violations of Republic Act 9239. If found guilty, the people responsible for this act will face maximum imprisonment of up to six (6) years and a fine of up to One Million Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php 1,500,000.00) per violation. #
