OMB Arrests Online Seller of Pirated Movies

November 05, 2019 – The Optical Media Board conducted an entrapment operation today through the efforts of the Enforcement and Investigation Division (EID) to apprehend an online seller selling storage devices, particularly external hard drive with pre-downloaded pirated movies.

The suspect, Mark Jun Eludo Marchandesch, was taken into custody by the agents of the OMB. An Intelligence Officer of the EID posed as a buyer and ordered an external hard drive from the suspect, who is also known as online seller Cybercutie.

Marchandesch agreed to meet with the agent near a mall in Manila, where the suspect was arrested. Confiscated from the suspect were two (2) external hard drives containing pre-downloaded pirated movies and marked money worth P6,000.

The suspect is facing administrative and criminal charges for violations of Republic Act 9239 otherwise known as the Optical Media Act of 2003. If found guilty, Marchandesch will face maximum imprisonment of up to six years and a fine of up to One Million Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php 1,500,000.00) per violation.
