Monthly Enforcement Operations Accomplishment

For January 2017, OMB Agents conducted inspections in various areas of Metro Manila, Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), 3 (Central Luzon), 4-A (Calabarzon), and 5 (Bicol Region).

One hundred eighty eight stall/establishment were inspected, and said operations during the period led to the seizure of 273,200 pieces of pirated CDs/DVDs of different format and titles, as well as 207,990 pieces of blank CDs, all amounting to an estimated value of PhP97.69-Miliion.

CITY OF MEYCAUAYAN, Bulacan—Optical Media Board (OMB) Chairman Anselmo B. Adriano and Maria Liza Diño, the chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, led on Tuesday the ceremonial destruction of approximately 15,000 confiscated compact discs and compact disc digital videos (CDs-DVDs) at the national high school in this city.

Provincial Inspection Operation

On January 27, 2017, Agents conducted the routine inspection in Dau, Mabalacad, Pampanga, where illegal compact discs are openly sold to the public.

A total of sixteen business stalls were inspected, which led to the seizure of around 16,800 or more pieces pirated CDs/DVDs of different format and titles amounting to an estimated value of Php5.88-Million.

Inspection Operations

On January 24, 2017, OMB Agents implemented Inspection Orders to check business stalls in parts of Metro Manila and the Province of Rizal, where illegal compact discs are openly sold to the public.

In Quezon City and Marikina, seventeen CD retailers were inspected which resulted in the seizure of around 12,000 pieces of pirated CDs, valued at PhP4.27-Million.

Six vendors in nearby San Mateo, Rizal were also inspected, leading to the confiscation of 4,200 pieces of illegal optical discs, valued at Php1.47-Million.

A Memorandum of Agreement was recently signed between the Department of Trade and Industry and the Optical Media Board creating workstations in selected Negosyo Centers of DTI for licensing of optical media enterprises nationwide.

Romel Amihan, DTI–Negros Occidental trade and industry development officer, said the MOA signed by DTI Regional Operations Group Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya Cuison and OMB Chairman Anselmo Adriano aims to expand the presence of OMB and to increase the number of entrepreneurs registering their optical and magnetic media businesses.

Combined licensing proceeds and the amount of seized pirated materials have reached over P1.15 billion in 2016 from just P557.5 million in 2016, the Optical Media Board reported Monday.

OMB chairman and chief executive Anselmo Adriano said in a briefing the agency intensified monitoring efforts, especially in the provinces where the sale of pirated DVD movies remained rampant.

Metro Manila Inspection Operation

On January 17, 2017, OMB Agents implemented Inspection Orders to check business stalls in Bagong Silang, where illegal compact discs are openly sold to the public.

Said operations led to the seizure of forty four (44) sacks of pirated CDs/DVDs of different format and titles, amounting to an estimated value of PhP6.16-Million.

Metro Manila Inspection Operations

On January 13, 2017, OMB Agents implemented Inspection Orders to check business stalls in St. Francis Square Mall in Mandaluyong City, a known “hot spot” where illegal compact discs are openly sold to the public.

Said operations caught off guard pirate CD vendors which led to the seizure of one hundred ten (110) sacks of pirate d CDs/DVDs of different format and titles, amounting to an estimated value of PhP15.40-Million.

Provincial Inspection Operation

On January 12, 2017, Agents conducted routine inspections in various areas of Masbate, Bicol Region province not recently visited by the OMB and where illegal compact discs were reportedly being openly sold to the public.

A total of twenty five business stalls were inspected which led to the seizure of around 60,000 or more pieces CDs/DVDs of different format and titles, amounting to an estimated value of Php21-Million.

The MOA aims to strengthen efforts to protect the interests of consumers and entrepreneurs alike. Under the partnership, the DTI will provide workstations in selected DTI Negosyo Centers to facilitate the registration of OMB stakeholders’ licenses and permits.

  Since OMB is currently based in Metro Manila, Adriano said, entrepreneurs from the provinces will not have to travel anymore to process their licenses and permits applications.
